He Is Able
PASSAGE FOR THE DAY:
Luke 18 (click the link)
KEY VERSES:
Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” (Luke 18:27, NIV)
REFLECTIONS:
If we only had Chapter 18 of Luke’s gospel it would still be a pretty good summation of Jesus’ teaching and life. Luke 18 has many of the most memorable teachings of Christ like “the squeaky wheel gets the grease” (aka the widow and wicked judge), or who can forget “the self righteous lawyer versus the IRS agent” (aka the Pharisee and tax collector), and a personal favorite “the rich guy that had everything but the amazing acrobatic ability to fit his camel through the eye of a needle” (aka the entrance of the wealthy into the kingdom of God). After Jesus makes his statement about the difficulty of the rich to enter into the kingdom of heaven he is asked this question, “Then who can be saved?” I would like to think that Jesus had a smile as he said these words in answer to the question, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” Do you believe this? I only ask because Jesus himself asks a similar question in Luke 18 when he asks “… when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?” How would you answer that question of our Lord? If faith was to be found would it be in ourselves and our own reason, or God? Luke 18 holds the answer to what kind of faith is required of those who wish to be a part of His kingdom. Jesus tells those around Him that unless they receive the kingdom of God like a child they will never enter into it. Our Heavenly Father is calling us to trust Him. He is able, He is able to right all the wrongs and it isn’t necessary for us to know how He is doing it even now in our present darkness of this world.
POINT OF ACTION:
I’m a recovering worrier or maybe a better way to say it is I’m someone who lacks faith. All that I do when I worry is tell God that I don’t think He is big enough to handle this thing. I realize that I’m not able but then I put that off on God and don’t believe He is able either in direct opposition to the true and perfect words of Jesus, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” I have had breakthroughs recently though and worry no long goes before me. Now it’s kind of in my side view mirror but I hope that very soon worry will be eating my dust as I move forward and upward in faith and growth as a believer in all of God’s promises. Jesus is just asking for us to have a little faith. He can handle the big and little problems in life. Give the guy some credit—He is the Son of God after all, you can trust Him.
PRAYER:
Father, help us in our unbelief and give us faith. Let us be a faithful people so if You sent Your Son back today He would find much faith on the earth, and the great works that You will to do would not be stifled by lack of faith. We ask in Your Son’s name Jesus, please don’t refuse.
WHO AM I?
I am Paul Babb and I’m just now figuring out that God can take care of not only my needs but get this… He can take care of those I love and care for without me worrying about it. Awesome!
